Animal Abuse – What Gives Man this “Right”?

December 16, 2009
Does the Bible statement found in Genesis 1:26, regarding man’s dominion over the animals of the earth, provide justification to some people that man has the right to abuse animals?

I’m referencing any and all animal abuse that has and does occur on this world.  Now mind you I am not a member of PETA.  But I question what the human race has evolved into.

There were two articles on msnbc.com this morning that unfortunately caught my eye.  At first, I must say that there was something within me that warned me about looking at this information.  But I did.

The first article is about Ringling Brothers and their “training” of elephants, particularly baby elephants.  An ex-trainer has blown the whistle, not only about this issue, but that he had participated in this cruelty.  Of course, Ringling Brothers is up-in-arms about this.  I assuming because PETA has been on their butts for some time alleging their elephant “training” seems to cross over into cruelty.  Video

The second article I read was about a raid of an exotic animal delivery company in Northern Texas.  Approximately 20,000 animals were discovered .. dead, dying, malnourished.  Video

Of course, we still have the horse butcher(s) in Florida.  Video

And individuals in communities killing / torturing neighborhood dogs and cats.  Video

… and that’s only a sampling of the cruelty and abuse that is discovered.

So again I ask, can the Bible statement found in Genesis 1:26, regarding man’s dominion over the animals of the earth, provide justification to some people that man has the right to abuse animals?

Please share your thoughts of this article.
