The mid-1960’s: Memories of a Sixth Grader from St. Louis, MO

December 6, 2009

My roots are in St. Louis, Missouri.

Tonight I found myself remembering my very early teen years which began in St. Louis, ending in California.  However, it is my youth while in St. Louis which gives me the fondest memories.  Here are shared thoughts, pictures, and videos of some of those memories.

 Every female teen’s dream  …

… was a pink princess telephone!

Those great Bell Telephone commercials:

My dad took myself and a friend to see The Beetles at Busch Stadium (8/21/1966) … I believe I was the only teen there with my father!

Tickets were priced $5.00 for general admission, and $5.50 for loge seating.

Adorn Hair Spray was needed for the colossal hair …
The “Jean Shimpton from Yardley” look …. the time spent on eye makeup.  Do you have any idea how long it took to draw THREE lines of eyeliner (black, white and black…)?!  Thank you Twiggy!!
The S.S. Admiral was the place to dance the summer nights away while cruising up and down on the Mississippi River.
“Bob Kuban and the In Men” was the popular live entertainment.
And now, in the present, I look at these memories and into eyes of what I have become.  Wow…
