Shhhhh! Parrots Sleeping!

November 2, 2009

Quiet, undisturbed sleep is a very important aspect of parrot health.  Ten to twelve hours are recommended.  And “quiet, undisturbed” means exactly what it says …. no loud noises, including television, radio, loud conversation …….

To cover or not to cover bird cages seems to take on personal choices.  I have always covered the flock at night.  I feel that their cage covers help achieve undisturbed sleep, as well as helping to maintain a warm environment and keeping out drafts throughout the night.

Notice that the cover for Casper’s and Snowman’s cages is one.  They have lived side-by-side since they’ve been with me and seem to feel secure in each other’s companyThe prior cover(s) for these particular cages consisted of black king sized sheets, placed however way would cover the two cage the best.  What they have now is a vast improvement.

I located several different patterns for cage covers on the Internet – if you like the challenge of sewing, this may be a good choice for you.   However, as I’m not the best seamstress in the world, I purchased the covers from “Judy’s Stuff” (see blog sidebar).
