My First Blog

October 15, 2009

The night is getting late, and it is raining.  A perfect setting for my first blog.

Although I was going to begin my posts with the story of Phoenix, I’ve changed my mind …. acceptable.

So, I begin with conversations, with different customers, from a bird-only pet store.  I was there helping the owner with tending to the birds.

——————–

(Customer #1)

Customer (pointing to a parrot):  Does this bird talk?

Me:  It has the potential to talk.

Customer:  But does it talk?

(Customer then walks over to another  parrot.)

Customer:  Does this one talk?

Me:  It has the potential to talk.

(Customer now walks over to yet another parrot.)

Customer:  What about this one?  Does it talk?

(I then leave the room.)

——————–

(Customer #2)

Me:  Oh …. you have a parrot?

Customer:  Yes, I have a parrot.

Me:  What kind?

Customer:  It is green.

(I then leave the room.)

——————–

(Customer #3)

Customer:  I’m going to have to get rid of my parrot.

Me:  Why?

Customer:  It screams, flings food, bites me and poops.

Me:  Isn’t that what parrots sometimes do?

Customer:  Yeah … but I don’t like that.  It has to go.

(I then leave the room.)

——————–

(Customer #4)

Customer:  I want to buy a cockatoo.  (Customer is looking at a hand-fed baby cockatoo.)  How much is this?

Me:  $1,500.00.

Customer:  Does it bite?

Me:  I don’t know …  every bird is different towards different people.  Have you ever had a parrot?

Customer:  No.  Never owned one.

Me:  Have you researched cockatoos?  You know, sometimes they can be very loud.  And they are very social.  If you have a computer at home, you may want to take some time and research cockatoos, or parrots in general.  Another idea would be to go to the library …. you could research cockatoos, or parrots in general, there.

Customer:  Maybe sometime later.  I’d like to buy this parrot now.

(I then leave the room.)

Good night, World!

I don’t know whether to laugh or scream at the ignorance of people who would like to call themselves pet lovers… I choose to laugh… Be patient!

    mmjaye:

Thank you for your comment. “Be patient!” H-m-m-m I agree, although at times I find it almost undo-able! A question: At what point does ignorance cross the line and become stupidity?
